Beginner Upper Body Strength Workout | Rotational Strength || Diasatsis Recti Safe Osteoporosis Mods
In this beginner upper body strength workout, we focus on rotational strength! You'll work on opening the chest and getting full range of motion and mobility in the shoulders and upper body.
Rotational strength is vital for accessing your shoulder strength, and I'll take you through a complete upper body workout to help you maximize your mobility AND strength.
This upper body strength workout is part 2 of a series. Part 1 teaches the basics of shoulder movement so your form is on point as we add intensity.
This workout is great (and safe!) for advanced Diastasis Recti recovery. :) Not sure if you're in advanced recovery? Leave a comment and let me know!
This upper body workout is also safe for osteoporosis and osteopenia, with on-screen modifications for some exercises. **You'll want to keep your back straight as you rotate and forward bend. These exercises are not off the table if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, in fact rotating around a straight spine can be very beneficial to maintain mobility of the joints. As always, please follow your medical professionals guidelines.**

Hi! Yes this is a prolapse safe workout. The key to working out with prolapse is the awareness of bearing down. You'll want to check in with your pelvic floor movement in all the exercises, and notice if you 'bear down' on any effort. If you do feel bearing down, modify your hip or rib position and consciously lift the pelvic floor as you're exhaling. :) Let me know if that helps!

Thank you for this, Kendra. I am in rehab mode due to Cervical Stenosis, winging scapula & rotator cuff issues. Found you by chance glad i did.Good clear instructions.Its hard to find suitable workouts if have osteoporosis or osteopenia and also osteoarthritis Lunges and some squats can be painful and hard to get full range of motion.Any alternatives would be appreciated.Thanks

Love this video as I am diagnosed with severe osteoporosis. Question: When you are saying LEFT leg...in the video it is your RIGHT leg you're referring to and moving and visa versa. It's confusing for my mind to see you lift your right leg but say it's the left. Any tips to overcome the confusion are helpful! Again, thank-you for doing this video!

I know this can be confusing, and I alternate mirror image / doing the same as I say in videos because different people like each. Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback! Ho do you’re hips not move when your moving your legs???
Your deep core muscles will do the job of keeping your ribs and pelvis still while moving your legs. You'll know you're doing the core brace correctly when you can engage your core and the hips have zero movement. Keep practicing, it will come!

Whats a good brand of foam roller to get?
I love the OPTP site for foam rollers (I am not associated with them, just like the quality). The black foam rollers are more dense, ie. add more pressure on your tissues, white is less dense and blue / blue marble is the least dense. Hope that helps!

I have a doubt, like do we exhale completely out n then lift the pelvic floor? I feel kind of holding breath otherwise... Is it correct? N pls pls help me out as i constantly gripping my upper ab as welll...
Happy to help! Your pelvic floor will naturally lift throughout the exhale, right from the beginning. Keep the breath fluid and smooth, no need to hold the breath. Upper ab gripping can create more pressure down into the pelvic floor and make that exhaled contraction more difficult. Try lifting your arms overhead to disengage the upper ab gripping and try the breath again - see how it goes!
